Rare Myrtle Desk (early 1900s) S-curve tambour roll top solid oak desk. Raised panel detail on sides, back and knee hole. The top opens to reveal multiple pigeon holes and drawers with two pencil trays. Some pigeon holes have original cardboard inserts with metal pulls. Beautiful cutout detail on inner shelves. Writing surface is in very good condition. Working lock and key for top only. Two base pedestals offer pull-out steno writing shelves, and 7 drawers (2 with dividers). Bottoms of several drawers in pedestal bases have cracks, please refer to photos. Top sits on top of, and disassembles from, two pedestal bases for easy transport.
This is a beautiful, fully functional, vintage piece. Wear, cracks, scuffs, blemishes, as well as aging of cardboard inserts in pigeon holes are to be expected and consistent with age.
Accompanying the desk is a Pioneer Manufacturing oak and cane swivel desk chair of later vintage (mid-1980s). Finish is in very good condition and caning is excellent.
