An unprecedented collection & exceptional provenance
welcome to les merciers. We are privileged to offer a highly rare, uniform suite of ten "chair one" chairs. While the design itself is a contemporary icon, securing a matching set of ten with such an extraordinary background is a true collector's opportunity. This exact set was sourced directly from the outdoor terraces of the musée du louvre in paris. Having hosted the international public at france's most prestigious cultural institution, this ensemble carries an undeniable historical aura that transcends standard furniture design.
architectural presence & space dynamics
designed in 2003 by the visionary konstantin grcic and produced by magis, the chair one radically deconstructs traditional seating. Inspired by geodesic domes and origami, grcic created a skeletal, three-dimensional structure. This technical feat in die-cast aluminum is especially brilliant when multiplied: even with ten chairs placed around a massive dining or boardroom table, the open geometric framework allows light to pass through, ensuring the room never feels visually cluttered or heavy. The original signatures "chair_one konstantin grcic" and "magis made in italy" are cast directly into every seat structure.
detailed condition & authentic patina
the entire suite of ten is in good vintage condition, with perfectly sound, stable, and robust structures. In the spirit of full transparency—and consistent with their prestigious public life outdoors at the louvre—they share a pronounced, authentic industrial patina. The off-white lacquer features assumed wear, paint chips, and scratches along the prominent geometric edges, revealing the raw die-cast metal beneath (please refer to the detailed photographs). We do not view this uniform cosmetic wear as a flaw, but rather as a beautiful historical footprint that guarantees their parisian provenance and adds immense "wabi-sabi" character to this radical industrial design.
