These iconic pieces exemplify Höglund’s playful yet primitive aesthetic, featuring deeply cast figural motifs encased within thick, richly colored glass. The larger example is rendered in a vivid emerald green tone, showcasing a stylized “robot” or mask-like figure in relief at its center. The smaller ashtray, in a deep sapphire blue, features a whimsical animal-like figure, both pieces exhibiting Höglund’s signature naïve expression and bold Scandinavian modern character. Each tray is heavily cast with softly rounded edges and a tactile, organic form. The glass has a beautiful depth, with subtle bubbles and variations that catch the light and enhance their sculptural presence. Equally functional as ashtrays or decorative objects, they work beautifully as a pair or individually as statement pieces. An excellent example of mid-century Swedish art glass, combining craftsmanship, humor, and modernist design.
