Blacks dominate, both in their sheer mass and in the way they are worked, varying in thickness, lightness, or brilliance. Color, often applied in glazes, disrupts the contrast between black and white. Mid-tones, such as ivory and golden beige, or bold colors like red and blue, emerge and occupy a large portion of the canvas, conveying a specific intention. One can thus perceive an opposition between the precious and the archaic, which ultimately find balance, leaving ample space for the breathing room imposed by the black or white background.
