Materials: glass mirror and alabaster. This piece is made to order. In fossil moon, the concept expands into a monumental scale. The circle, an eternal symbol of life cycles and celestial bodies, becomes the central structure of the work, confronting the viewer with its physical presence. The large-format round mirror, divided between two materials, unites origin and infinity in a single gesture. One half, carved in alabaster, evokes the surface of a fossilized moon: a celestial body that may once have contained water and life. Its natural textures and veins read as an eroded landscape, a petrified trace of a vanished world. The other half, made of mirrored glass, opens the piece into boundless space, reflecting not only the observer but also the surrounding void. In doing so, the mirror reveals time as a collapse of moments4what we see is always a reflection of what has already passed. The creation of fossil moon is a slow, meticulous manual process involving carving, sanding, and polishing by hand. Working at this scale transforms the act of sculpting into an immersive and meditative experience, where the artist engages physically with the material, shaping not only the stone but the perception of time itself. The gradual transformation of raw alabaster into a luminous surface echoes the erosion and formation of celestial bodies, allowing the piece to embody time, matter, and memory within a single, enduring form. Based in the pyrenees, amarist studio works from a context closely connected to stone, territory, and slow natural dynamics. This environment informs the studio’s sensitivity toward equilibrium, transformation, and the passage of time. Amarist’s works—including sculptures, mirrors, lighting pieces, and tables—are conceived as functional objects with a strong sculptural presence. Beyond their formal qualities, they propose a reflection on environmental transformation and on the fragile balance between matter, memory, and time. See less
