Limited edition of 8 pieces + 4 artist's proof. Dimensions: w 114 x d 78 x h 40 cm. Materials: aluminium. Partial presence is a table structured through subtraction. Perforated aluminium planes redistribute mass without surrendering order. Material is not removed as a decorative gesture, but calibrated until the object depends less on density than on relation. The table does not enclose space. It articulates it. Light passes through the surface and through the body below, extending the object beyond its measurable outline. Shadow becomes structural, not incidental. What first appears solid reveals itself as permeable and rhythmically divided. Stability is not established through bulk, but through distribution, repetition, and control. Within bureau of entropy, partial presence marks a condition in which matter, void, and illumination remain in continuous exchange — a table whose presence is intensified, not diminished, by what has been removed. The case study. This piece is part of the case study collection, which follows a narrow corridor defined by function, reduction, and structural necessity. The work of bureau of entropy follows a narrow corridor defined by function, reduction, and structural necessity. Objects are developed through two primary binding principles: precise interlocking parts with minimal tolerances, and gravity used as a structural agent. Form follows function not as a slogan, but as constraint. Less is more not as style, but as discipline. Within this corridor, forms emerge that recall ancient, culturally tested archetypes — objects whose functions have endured for millennia. Their familiarity is not nostalgic, but structural. Each object represents a specific condition within this ongoing case study. Bureau of entropy is a design collective founded in 2025 by marvin julian freund and matthias figurowicz. The collective is rooted in a shared background in toolmaking craftsmanship, where both founders developed a deep understanding of material behaviour, precision manufacturing, and metalworking processes. This early, hands-on experience continues to inform their approach to construction and structural logic. Following this foundation, freund pursued studies in architecture with a focus on spatial design, proportion, and material presence, while figurowicz studied mechanical engineering, specialising in structure, mechanics, and functional systems. Over time, their distinct disciplines evolved in parallel, shaping complementary perspectives on form and function. In 2025, these paths converged in the formation of bureau of entropy. Today, the collective works at the intersection of architecture, engineering, and craftsmanship, developing furniture and lighting objects that emphasise structural clarity, material intelligence, and reduced form. The work operates between functional object and sculptural presence, positioning itself within the field of collectible design. See less
