Orbital array aluminium table lamp by bureau of entropy. Limited edition, numbered & signed. Dimensions: w 20 x d 20 x h 35 cm. Materials: aluminium. All our lamps can be wired according to each country. If sold to the usa it will be wired for the usa for instance. Orbital array reduces the table lamp to a compact system of symmetry, aperture, and suspended light. Constructed without welds or adhesives, the object relies on compression, exact tolerances, and the alignment of its machined aluminium elements. Its stability feels calm, but its geometry is never inert. At the centre, a dimmable light source is partially concealed and revealed through four dome-shaped openings. This produces a layered reading: from some angles the lamp appears closed and controlled; from others, its internal volume becomes active and unexpectedly exposed. Brushed aluminium catches and redirects the light in soft reflections, allowing the object to remain visually charged even when unlit. Orbital array does not depend on narrative styling or retro quotation. Its futurity comes from structure: a disciplined object whose order remains clear, but never entirely exhausted at first glance. The case study. This piece is part of the case study collection, which follows a narrow corridor defined by function, reduction, and structural necessity. The work of bureau of entropy follows a narrow corridor defined by function, reduction, and structural necessity. Objects are developed through two primary binding principles: precise interlocking parts with minimal tolerances, and gravity used as a structural agent. Form follows function not as a slogan, but as constraint. Less is more not as style, but as discipline. Within this corridor, forms emerge that recall ancient, culturally tested archetypes — objects whose functions have endured for millennia. Their familiarity is not nostalgic, but structural. Each object represents a specific condition within this ongoing case study. Bureau of entropy is a design collective founded in 2025 by marvin julian freund and matthias figurowicz. The collective is rooted in a shared background in toolmaking craftsmanship, where both founders developed a deep understanding of material behaviour, precision manufacturing, and metalworking processes. This early, hands-on experience continues to inform their approach to construction and structural logic. Following this foundation, freund pursued studies in architecture with a focus on spatial design, proportion, and material presence, while figurowicz studied mechanical engineering, specialising in structure, mechanics, and functional systems. Over time, their distinct disciplines evolved in parallel, shaping complementary perspectives on form and function. In 2025, these paths converged in the formation of bureau of entropy. Today, the collective works at the intersection of architecture, engineering, and craftsmanship, developing furniture and lighting objects that emphasise structural clarity, material intelligence, and reduced form. The work operates between functional object and sculptural presence, positioning itself within the field of collectible design.
