Materials: stainless steel, moleanos limestone (extracted in portugal). Conceived and crafted entirely from the ground up, this cabinet emerges as both a structural statement and a quiet provocation, an object where weight dissolves into movement and matter becomes experience. Built from a precise stainless steel framework, it holds six suspended elements of moleanos limestone, each one carefully cut from a single portuguese slab, following a natural vein that both guided and defined its fragmentation. The raw, fractured edges, left intentionally expressive, stand in close dialogue with the exacting sharpness of the metal, creating a tension between the industrial and the organic, the controlled and the found. Despite the physical gravity of the stone, the custom-designed sliding system, developed from scratch alongside local artisans, renders each movement remarkably light and smooth, almost as if the material itself had relinquished its mass. Fully disassemblable, the piece speaks not only to functionality and transport but also to a philosophy of adaptability and care, extending the life of its materials while inviting continuous reconfiguration. Made entirely in portugal, it reflects a deep commitment to locality, precision, and handcraft at both monumental and intimate scales. The design suspends each stone element within a rigorous metal framework, establishing a clear contrast between weight and lightness, natural and industrial, permanence and system. Rooted in the use of existing material conditions, it embraces restraint by working with what was already present in the stone, minimizing waste while elevating its inherent character. The result is a cabinet that is not static but responsive, an object that encourages interaction, shifting with use and adapting to each moment. Rosana sousa is a multidisciplinary designer based in porto, distinguished by her meticulous attention to detail and holistic approach to both ideation and production. With a deep-seated passion for her craft, she focuses on the thoughtful use of materials and forms, blending traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge elements of modern industry. Dedicated to fostering close relationships with local artisans and resources, rosana’s work embodies a harmonious balance of technicality and elevated artistry.
