Curved ceramic sculpture depicting an anthropomorphic hybrid creature, combining human facial features with insect-like elements and polychrome surface. This work belongs to the series Bichos, developed by Óscar Aldonza Torres in 2026, in which the human body is reimagined through processes of transformation, deformation, and hybridization. The figure presents a continuous elongated form that bends into a soft curve, creating a horizontal sculptural presence defined by flow rather than segmentation. At one end, the sculpture reveals its most distinctive feature: a small, human-like face subtly modeled with expressive detail, from which emerge thin antenna-like elements made of aluminum. This combination produces a striking ambiguity—the figure is at once human and insect, familiar and strange. The facial expression, slightly exaggerated, introduces a tone that oscillates between the grotesque and the playful. The ceramic body is treated with a smooth polychrome glaze in pale purple and grey tonalities, interrupted by a sequence of dotted markings that run along its length. These spots reinforce the sense of movement and direction, guiding the viewer’s eye across the curved form. The glossy surface enhances the continuity of the body, allowing light to articulate its gentle undulations. Formally, the sculpture departs from vertical figuration to explore horizontal extension and organic continuity. The body reads as a single evolving gesture, while the head introduces a focal point where identity becomes unstable. The result is a hybrid figure in which human traits dissolve into an animal-like structure, suggesting a state of transformation rather than a fixed identity. As a contemporary ceramic sculpture, the piece functions as a small-scale collectible object suitable for shelf, console, or tabletop display. Its curved profile allows it to engage dynamically with surrounding surfaces, introducing a subtle but distinctive spatial rhythm. While fully autonomous, the sculpture is conceived to coexist with other figures from the Bichos series. In group installations, these hybrid creatures interact to form unexpected choreographies—bodies bending, turning, and confronting one another—creating a sculptural environment in which narrative emerges through proximity and variation. This anthropomorphic ceramic sculpture reflects a process-driven approach in which the human figure is subjected to distortion and hybridization. The result is an expressive contemporary sculptural object that navigates between humor and unease, familiarity and estrangement.
