Cubist Embrace presents a dense, structured composition in which two bodies intertwine within a tight, dynamic space. Fragmented yet powerful forms, rendered in bold curves and stylized volumes, evoke a sensual union without descending into literal representation.
Thick black lines anchor the composition, defining planes, articulating masses, and creating a strong visual rhythm. The work clearly dialogues with Cubist traditions—particularly Picasso’s deconstruction of the human figure—while asserting a personal, gestural language. The palette of deep blues, greens, and greys, enriched by hatching and subtle gradients, adds depth and sculptural presence.
Blending modernist heritage with contemporary sensibility, this large-scale canvas oscillates between abstraction and figuration, structure and emotional intensity. Its strong wall presence makes it an ideal acquisition for collectors drawn to the legacy of Cubism and the timeless theme of the embrace.
About the Artist
Gundi Falk, born in 1966 in Salzburg, Austria, is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, drawing, sculpture, and experimental photography (including chemigrams in collaboration with Pierre Cordier). A trained contemporary dancer, she explores movement, rhythm, transformation, and the trace of the gesture. Since the late 1990s she has exhibited widely in Europe, the United States, and Asia.
This painting is a strong and characteristic example of her pictorial work from around 2000, merging graphic power, sensual tension, and a personal reinterpretation of modernist traditions. This piece has an attribution mark,
