designer masayuki matsukaze (japan, 1942) is a japanese designer best known for his collaboration with the italian company kartell in the 1970s. Born in japan in 1942, he worked with the centrokappa design team creating plastic furniture for school and home use. He is particularly remembered for designing the sistema scuola system, consisting of colorful, lightweight, and durable folding tables and chairs. Among his best-known projects is also the 4820 folding chair from 1979. His works are distinguished by their functional approach, innovative use of plastic, and the minimalist forms typical of italian design of that period. Today, his pieces are considered mid-century design classics and are sought after by vintage design collectors.
