Crafted in finely cast bronze, the piece is centered around a striking and dynamic figure of the greek goddess athena, depicted in a graceful contrapposto stance. She raises a spear in one hand while holding the aegis shield in the other, prominently adorned with the head of medusa in relief. Surrounding the figure is an elegant arrangement of naturalistic stems, leaves, and flower buds, characteristic of the art nouveau movement’s fascination with organic forms. Each bud is fitted with a brass and porcelain lamp holder, six in total, creating a dramatic and sculptural lighting effect when illuminated. The craftsmanship is of exceptional quality, with finely modeled anatomical details and expressive facial features, combined with beautifully rendered botanical elements. The piece exemplifies the fusion of sculpture and functional design typical of the period, making it both a work of art and a lighting object. Signed “p. Aichele” on the base. The lamp retains its original brass and porcelain lamp holders and has been rewired with a new cord and switch.
