This plaster work recreates one of the masterpieces of Renaissance art, Michelangelo's Moses, inspired by the original, larger-than-life marble sculpture created by Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475–1564). Created in the 16th century for the funerary monument of Julius II, it is housed in the Basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli in Rome. The figure of the biblical prophet has some small losses in addition to the right arm and has a warm, dark, grayish patina, likely due to old coloring. Iron reinforcements are visible at the corners of the lower base. It comes from a private collection and dates to the first half of the 20th century. See less
