the "la fonda" series was designed by charles and ray eames specifically for alexander girard's restaurant, la fonda del sol in the times life building, new york, and was produced by herman miller in 1961. With its central pedestal consisting of four parallel shafts that split at the bottom to form a four-star base in polished die-cast aluminium, it is one of the most elegant and unconventional bases ever designed by the eameses.
each chair is stamped herman miller to the underside and the desk has a herman miller action office label under the table. The dining suite was bought from the deceased estate of a herman miller employee and has been well loved after over the years. The chairs and table are good and sturdy and in incredible condition for their age, with no rips or tears and come complete with original gliders to the feet.
condition wise; there is fading to the tops of all the red naugahyde chairs, the aluminium legs have the odd chip to the painted feet, and the laminate top of the table has two faint age-related marks, which are off-white patches, and a small shrinkage gap to the edge of the table rubber - please see last image.
