Safari Chair designed by Kaare Klint and produced by Rud Rasmussen, Denmark, early twentieth century.
Based on traditional campaign furniture, the chair is constructed without fixed joinery, relying on tension and proportion to hold the frame together. The result is a piece that feels practical and well judged, with a clear and honest structure.
The oak frame has a warm tone with a visible grain that becomes more defined in changing light. It has been lightly refinished to bring out the natural character of the timber, leaving a soft, low sheen. The leather is original and has aged to a deep amber colour, with natural variation across the surface and a consistent patina built up over time.
