The back is beautifully executed with an elaborate ribbon design centred by finely carved scrollwork and foliage creating a striking and highly decorative silhouette.
The carving is crisp and confident showing the skill of the maker and giving the chair real presence. The flowing arms and cabriole legs are equally well shaped terminating in carved feet that complete the design with elegance and balance.
Chairs of this type were originally made for use in drawing rooms or at writing desks where both comfort and appearance were important. Today it works perfectly as a desk chair or statement occasional chair adding warmth and contrast to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
