The body is painted in the reticulated pattern of a Masai giraffe, with bold dark brown polygonal patches on the torso transitioning to rounder spots on the legs and neck. The mane is incised directly into the wood with fine carved ridges — a lovely artisanal detail.
The sculpture stands on an integral oval base carved from a single piece of wood, with the four legs tenoned directly into it. The underside reveals beautiful raw grain, confirming solid hardwood construction throughout. The base shows natural age-related checking (hairline cracks), which is characteristic of African hardwood carvings and consistent with the piece’s age and authenticity.
Condition notes: Natural checking/cracks on the oval base; one ossicone (horn) shows minor chipping at the tip. No repairs or restorations. Sturdy and display-ready.
