This is that something.A cast iron horse head hitching post mount — the horse rendered with real anatomical sympathy, ears pricked, eyes alert, iron ring through the mouth for tying. Mounted on an oak leaf and foliate backplate with original mounting holes. The surface carries a spectacular aged patina — layers of verdigris, iron oxide, and original paint building up over a century or more into something that no restorer could replicate.These were fixed to the exterior walls of houses, stables, and public buildings across America and Europe throughout the 19th century. As horses disappeared from daily life they came down from the walls — and the good ones, like this, ended up exactly where they belong: in the hands of someone who knows what they’re looking at.Wall mount.
