Nicholas Firfires, American, 1917-1990
Known for Cowboy western genre, portraying western scenes in oil paintings and watercolors. He was a descendant of California vaqueros, born on the Waunakee Ranch in Santa Barbara County.
"The War Chief", signed lower left, Original Oil on canvas mounted in elaborately carved wood and gessoed gilt frame. Painting depicts tribe of Native Americans on horseback in the CA Mountains.
Canvas in excellent condition. Small chip in frame's gesso.
