A striking and beautifully restored monumental credenza by modernist designer Charles Dudouyt, made in France c. 1930s. The case sits atop a recessed bridge base, with a pair of wide-set legs that blur the lines between inanimate and living.
At nearly seven feet wide and over three feet high, it is a commanding presence in any room, equal parts imposing and playful. Horizontal reeding adds a touch of visual drama, drawing your eyes to the oversized brass hardware while visually connecting the case to the base.
The original keys have remained with the piece for nearly a century, a small miracle unto itself. Cabinet doors open to reveal a pair of adjustable shelves, with a column of drawers providing additional storage in the center.
This rare and collectible icon of French modernist design is in excellent refinished condition, ready to serve for generations to come.
