Elevate your interior with this powerful mixed-media sculpture from a Palm Beach estate. This "Coastal Brutalist" work features a torch-cut metal fish with a rich, authentic rust patina and a smooth glass-marble eye, set against a rugged, shell-embedded concrete slab.
Design Pedigree & The Collector’s Note:
The signature central aperture is a deliberate architectural detail. In Brutalist design, this feature often references "form-tie" holes—the industrial markings left behind when concrete is poured into wooden molds. Historically, this feature allowed for high-end versatility in display:
The Standoff Mount: In gallery settings, a decorative metal bolt was used to secure the piece to a wall, creating a "floating" effect.
The Pedestal Display: These pieces were frequently showcased on vertical metal rods for tabletop viewing.
Display & Framing:
The 1.5 inch depth and 7 pound heft make this a significant architectural statement. It is an exceptional candidate for professional shadowbox framing, which would secure the artistic offset of the fish and allow for a perfectly level wall presentation. It is equally stunning resting on a deep bookshelf or displayed on a heavy-duty easel. Includes a natural fiber rope wrap on the reverse.
