Measuring 14 inches … Read more This is an impressive, full-sized antique Japanese lacquer document box (fubako) dating to the Meiji Period (1868–1912). Measuring 14 inches in length, this piece was designed to house formal scrolls or documents. The lid showcases masterful maki-e (sprinkled gold powder) artistry, featuring a songbird amid blossoming plum branches, accented by a central hexagonal family crest (mon). The box features a deep cinnabar-over-black lacquer finish with a high-gloss black interior. It retains its original brass hardware and internal hinges. Condition: Good antique condition with character. There is visible lacquer loss and minor chipping along the edges of the lid and the back side (refer to photos). The lock is present but no key is included. Dimensions: 14" L x 4" W x 3.25" H.
