Signed ceramic sculpture by Kay Henkel (1925–2019), a California sculptor and National Sculpture Society member known for expressive figurative work and large-scale commissions. This piece shows a man carrying a child across his shoulders, rendered with heavy texture and an earthy, hand-worked surface. The applied patina gives it the presence of aged bronze while retaining the warmth and irregularity of ceramic.
The modeling is loose and intentional, with emphasis on gesture and emotion over fine detail. Strong vertical presence at 13 inches tall, with a grounded base and excellent visual weight. Signed at the base.
