A pair of architectural columns in the neoclassical Doric style. Each column has a fluted shaft and a stepped square base with molded detail. The wood has a stripped, natural finish with visible knots and weathering that gives them an aged, architectural quality.
These are hollow wood construction, so they're lighter than they look and easy to move. We used them flanking a set of double doors, which gave the entryway a formal, European feel. They'd also work framing a fireplace, anchoring a large room, or as decorative pedestals.
No capital at the top, so the shaft is open. Condition is consistent with their age — some wear, minor chips to the base, and natural wood movement. Priced as a pair.
Origin and age are unknown, though the hollow wood millwork construction, pine material, and plinth base profile are consistent with early 20th century American architectural columns. Age is estimated below as 1920's but is unknown/unconfirmed (we purchased them in 2011 and they were listed as antique). They may be architectural salvage, but we can't confirm that.
