A large square silver-plated ashtray by Castelli, Italy, circa 1970s. The ashtray features a hand-hammered surface throughout, giving the simple geometric form a lively texture and subtle variation in the light. Four deep cigarette rests are integrated into the corners, emphasizing the strong square silhouette.
The underside retains the original retailer’s label from a jewelry store in Parma, and the rim is stamped with the Castelli maker’s mark along with the words “hand made.”
Measures 8.25 inches square.
In very good vintage condition, with only the slightest wear to the silver plate consistent with age and use.
