Offered is a 1983 Limited Edition pencil-signed and numbered (1807 of 2000) hardbound book, "Break of Day" - an attractive English-language reissue of the French author Colette's 1928 novel "La Naissance du Jour".
Signed by the illustrator, Françoise Gilot, the book includes three original silk screens and drawings bound within the text pages. The book itself is a collection of subtle reflections about love and life, and is considered one of Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette's (b. 1873 - d. 1954) most thoughtful and stylistically bold works. Known simply as Colette, a French author and woman of letters. She was also a mime, actress, and journalist, but is best known for her 1944 novella Gigi.
Artist Françoise Gilot (b. 1921 - d. 2023), a French painter and accomplished artist, notably in watercolors and ceramics, was best known for her relationship with Pablo Picasso, with whom she had two children, Paloma and Claude Picasso.
Translated from the French by Enid McLeod, the volume Includes The Monthly Letter of The Limited Editions Club from August 1983, Series 47, Vol. 1, on Women of Genius.
