A … Read more A vintage example of one of Elsa Peretti's most enduring designs — the Diamonds by the Yard solitaire pendant. A 0.90ct round brilliant diamond, graded F-G in color and VS2-SI1 in clarity, is bezel-set in an 8mm 18k yellow gold bezel and suspended on a delicate cable chain. The diamond is exceptionally bright and lively with high brilliance and scintillation. Due to the diamond's significant size, the culet — the pointed base of the stone — has been professionally filed down slightly to prevent it from pressing into the skin, a practical and common modification for larger bezel-set stones that improves wearability without affecting the stone's appearance. Based on the hallmark signature style, this piece dates to approximately the late 1970s to early 1980s. The chain has a slight patina giving the gold a warm, softly aged appearance rather than a bright polish — characteristic of a vintage piece. Can be polished at any Tiffany & Co. location worldwide. The spring clasp has lost some of its tension and would benefit from replacement, also available at any Tiffany & Co. location.

Elsa Peretti introduced Diamonds by the Yard for Tiffany & Co. in 1974 — a radical concept at the time, placing significant diamonds in simple bezel settings on fine gold chains, democratizing diamond jewelry by stripping away formality.
