In 1963 after returning from six months in Mexico, Ortiz met Don Baum in and became part of a group of artists called the Chicago Imagists. Like many in the group, his style incorporates elements of comic books, puzzles, and pop culture. The NMMA hosted his first-ever museum solo exhibition De vuelta: Works by Chicago Imagist Errol Ortiz in 2015. See less
