These Beautiful vintage antique Paris shadow boxes (Circa 1930- 1940) are similar and almost look identical, but they are not if you look closely, The lovely ladies are dressed differently, but in similar beautiful attire. The beautiful late 1800 early 1900 bustle gowns are unique, and the artwork is rare in every way! You will find these types of shadowboxes on the Internet and in antique auction houses. However, these two are in perfect vintage condition.
The 3D artwork is by La Mode Illustree
3D purse and parasol.
It amazes me considering the age of these pieces that the 3-D work is so well done. The fabrics and the trim expertly matched to the clothing and the attention to detail is remarkable! The attention to each bow, each dress, each hat, each pair of shoes, etc., is amazing!
A "La Mode Illustrée print" is an original hand-colored engraving or lithograph from the 19th-century French fashion magazine La Mode Illustrée. These prints depict Parisian fashion and were a highlight of the weekly magazine, which was published from 1860 to 1937.
Elegantly dressed women are depicted in the period attire and brought to life with delicate tucks and folds of their gowns. The silk, and lace and ruffled soft pastels highlighting the elegance of the 19th century fashion. The lovely hats are truly amazing and hard for me to imagine the work that went into the tiny delicate features each hat on each beautiful woman. The pictures tell the whole story.
There is so much impeccable work, I see a different detail every time I look at the fabric and trim. The French Fashion Magazine lithographs are in excellent condition with nice hand tinted accents. They're artistically brought to life in 3-D fashion with fabrics and trim that are expertly matched to the clothing of the model. The artist really did a lovely job of finding appropriate fabrics that were able to bend and fold accurately over the model. Notice the appropriate size of the fabrics designs and the miniature trims. The artist really has a good eye for size. The clothing fits perfectly. The drape and tuck of the bustle on the dress is AMAZING and I LOVE the delicate bows, parasols and tulle accents. It's amazing the fabrics are still fluffed! Notice the dress with a row of glass beads depicting buttons and see the dress next to her and notice the bottom is decorated with the teeniest flowers with a bead accent. That's really tight work! The shadow box frames are very sturdy and elegantly made. They're painted gold and are lightly distressed. They really compliment the beautifully dressed ladies inside.

What makes these so amazing to me is that my grandmother bought one in Chicago one week apart from my grade and who fought hers in California some sometime between 1930 and 1940. I am not sure of the exact date. My grandmother and my aunt had no idea that they had both bought the almost exact same shadowboxes at the same time until many years later. A reason for selling is I don’t want to have these lost or given away in a thrift store by my children who might not understand their true value.
