This finely executed plate is drawn and engraved after the original works assembled by Sir William Hamilton, British envoy to Naples, whose collection became one of the most influential visual sources for classical design in Europe. Published in the landmark series Collection of Etruscan, Greek, and Roman Antiquities (1766–1776), these engravings helped shape the visual language of Neoclassicism and directly inspired figures such as Josiah Wedgwood.

Rendered in the iconic black-ground “Greek vase” style, the composition features terracotta figures against a deep black field, with delicate highlights in pale gray and white.
