The … Read more Vintage Large-Scale Kinetic Teak Mask Sculpture Mounted to Painted Wood Tiered Base by Paul Bechtold, Circa Mid 20th Century. The elongated teak mask form is carved in-the-round and crafted with a central beveled hole from front to back as the mouth. Sculpted wells on the left and right appear to represent eyes. Mounted to a black and white painted, double layer plinth base. Heat branded “P E B” for Paul E Bechtold, on the underside of the teak portion of the sculpture.

Paul E. Bechtold of Long Island spent majority of his life in the skylight business, all while creating artwork behind the scenes largely constructed from excess and found material. He collaborated with Frank Lloyd Wright early in his career on the Usonian House, but his personal body of work was largely unknown.
