"A lovely example of early 20th-century French needlework, this hand-embroidered cotton pillowcase bears the initials MG within a delicate shield-shaped frame. The border is worked in the traditional jours à jours hemstitch, an airy laddered technique perfected by French seamstresses to give linens a subtle transparency and light.
Entirely hand-sewn and monogrammed, it was likely part of a young womanâs trousseau, marking the beginning of married life and domestic artistry. The soft vintage cotton has aged gracefully, becoming smooth and supple to the touch. The back fastens with small mother-of-pearl buttons, still intact, reflecting the quiet elegance of its time.
A refined piece of French textile history, equally beautiful for display or daily use as a boudoir or body pillow.
