A beautifully restrained and highly tactile antique French linen, woven in a softly nubby flax with subtle variations in texture that strongly suggest handloom work. The surface has a gentle, organic irregularity, evidence of traditional weaving rather than later industrial production.
The piece is finished with soft pink woven stripes running vertically along each side, just inside a finely worked bound edge. Beyond the stripe, a delicate hand-finished seam adds another layer of quiet craftsmanship. The pink has mellowed beautifully with age, remaining warm and harmonious against the natural linen ground.
Centered near the lower edge is a hand-embroidered monogram âFSIâ, stitched in creamy white thread with a pleasing, confident hand. The scale and placement suggest this was once part of a personal trousseau, likely a towel, service cloth, or multi-purpose boudoir linen.
