:
Display cabinet in mahogany veneered on oak, standing on a flat plinth. The gilded key plates in a classicist style contrast beautifully with the dark wood.
The two doors are glazed with eight panes each. The glazing is of the finest craftsmanship. from the outside, the double frame that accompanies the glazing bars is made of solid mahogany, profiled several times and precisely mitred at the corners. When the door is open, you can see how the outwardly tapered elements of the glazing bars are neatly set into the side and cross pieces of the frame. The glass panes are cemented into this construction from the inside.
The cabinet is locked with a solid iron bar lock that locks downwards, upwards and in the centre of the middle wall. The doors are grooved on the outside; a tongue that engages in the groove when closing ensures that the cabinet is completely dust-tight. At the top and bottom, the tapered end of the rod lock pulls the doors tightly against the cabinet body when locked, preventing dust from entering.
This unusual design suggests that the piece of furniture was originally used to store precious and delicate collection items. The shelves are height-adjustable in order to allow optimum adjustment to objects of different sizes. The two lowest shelves are significantly higher and may have been intended for storing specialised literature.
The back wall is made of solid oak in a frame construction. The panels have been neatly moulded from the inside at the corners and thus actively contribute to the design of the inside of the cabinet.
The cabinet can be dismantled into two parts for transport. The two halves are connected by solid wedge systems, one of which is mounted underneath the cabinet and the other on top of the roof. The attached photos show the solid construction of this system.
