Photographer, Andrew Paul Leonard, uses the scanning electron microscope to explore “inner- space” as another fronitier. His ability to capture the seldom seen beauty of a previously unimagined world which parallels our own has won him awards as well as having a cover of Time Magazine. Radiolarian are the skeletons one-celled organisms that live in the ocean. They are plankton. More specifically, zooplankton. There are many types of radiolarians, all with different shapes and patterns.
Colors is painted digitally by Leonard to complete the composition. Leonard’s work involves procuring the subject, preparing the subject for electron microscopy by coating the sample with gold and hours of exploration and photography with the microscope.
Leonard is a well-known photographer and boasts a cover of Time Magazine.
