Featuring an elaborate interior, ample storage space, a beveled marble top, and a writing flap with renewed leather upholstery, it is a true eye-catcher in any living room or study. Crafted from mahogany, it is elegant, authentic, and stylish. Historical Context: Secretaries of this type served as compact writing furniture for living and working spaces in the 19th century, combining organization, security, and a focused workspace in a single piece of furniture. A typical feature was the combination of a restrained exterior and a differentiated interior layout with small drawers, compartments, and concealed storage options, a feature particularly valued in bourgeois interiors. Features: The interior writing compartments are differentiated with several small drawers, open central compartments, and small side drawers. The lower section contains a removable, box-like insert with drawers and an internal compartment. In terms of design, the piece exhibits a reduction to clear surfaces and a calm, strictly defined basic form typical of the mid-19th century. The flat mahogany finish is complemented by fine contrasting moldings, the stone top, and the precisely structured interior, creating an objective, architectural effect. Function: Originally, the piece served as a lockable writing desk for storing letters, documents, writing utensils, and personal papers. Today, it is still suitable as a writing desk, but also as a compact home secretary, as storage furniture in the living area, or as a striking standalone piece in the study. Dimensions in cm: Height 153 × Width 101 × Depth 41. Material and condition: Mahogany, marble, recycled olive-green leather. In good condition for its age, with visible signs of use, patina, minor scratches, and age-related marks on the wood and interior surfaces. The piece is very stable and functional, exhibiting the typical, albeit not entirely pristine, condition of antique writing furniture. Well-maintained and professionally refurbished. See less
