A stunning Chinoiserie Chippendale-style mahogany side table in the manner of Thomas Chippendale, whose influential Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director (1754) defined this celebrated fusion of English Georgian and Chinese decorative traditions.
This is a high-quality Edwardian or early 20th-century example that showcases the very best features of the style.
The top is a showpiece in itself — a beautifully bookmatched flame mahogany veneer center panel framed by a finely executed contrasting crossbanded border, finished with a rich warm patina. Below, four reeded and chamfered square legs are joined by an elegant serpentine X-form stretcher and adorned at each corner with delicate pierced blind fretwork brackets featuring scrolling foliate cutouts — the hallmark of the Chinese Chippendale style.
