A patented mid-century American ceramic catch-all in vivid chartreuse glaze, designed by Harry M. Anholt of Denver, Colorado and manufactured by Coors Porcelain Company of Golden, Colorado. The oval bowl form features a scalloped rim, a serrated central ridge — Anholt's patented cigarette-retention design, filed March 24, 1941 and granted July 4, 1944 — and a beautifully embossed pea pod motif on the base interior. Covered in a rich, high-gloss lime green glaze that is among the most desirable colors in the Coors Porcelain palette. Embossed on the underside: "Anholt Ashtray / Denver / Colo. / Pat. 2352756."
Coors Porcelain Company began as the Herold China and Pottery Company in Golden, Colorado in 1910, with backing from Adolph Coors. When Prohibition halted beer production in 1916, Coors pivoted to fine ceramics — producing laboratory ware, dinnerware, and decorative pieces of exceptional technical quality. The Anholt ashtray was produced post-WWII as part of Coors' consumer product line, which included vases, mugs, and promotional pieces. Coors Porcelain later became CoorsTek, but its mid-century ceramic pieces remain highly collectible American art pottery. This piece is in very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks. A striking object for a bar cart, library shelf, or side table.
5" diameter. Made in USA.
