Presenting "Obsidio Rupellae" (The Siege of La Rochelle), a monumental 17th century etching and engraving by French artist Jacques Callot. Depicting the 1627–1628 siege of the Huguenot stronghold by King Louis XIII and Cardinal Richelieu, this work is a finely-detailed 6-plate rendering with artistic topographical elements and a story.
Framed dimensions: 69.5" wide x 61" tall
Site dimensions: 52" wide x 44" tall
This impressive piece is framed elegantly and appropriately, with a polycarbonate glazing.
Known examples reside in the British Museum, Minneapolis Institute of Art, and Fitzwilliam Museum.
Artist & Creator: Jacques Callot (1592–1635), likely published between 1628 and 1631.
Subject: The siege of La Rochelle, a major conflict between Catholic royal forces and Protestant rebels.
