Antique Japanese cabinet with sliding doors and two lower drawers, made of solid wood and dating from the late Taisho to early Showa period, circa 1920–1950.
This type of Japanese domestic cabinet was commonly used to store tableware, textiles or household utensils. Its compact design allowed it to fit easily into domestic interiors while keeping everyday objects organized.
The cabinet features two sliding doors that provide access to the interior storage space, which includes a shelf for organizing household items. The lower section includes two drawers fitted with traditional metal handles, typically used to store smaller utensils or textiles. The drawer fronts display the characteristic grain of keyaki wood (Japanese zelkova), while the drawer interiors are made from sugi (Japanese cedar), a common combination in traditional Japanese furniture.
The surface retains a natural patina with signs of age and use, developed over time and reflecting the authentic character of antique Japanese furniture.Today this cabinet can function as a sideboard, storage cabinet or decorative furniture piece in contemporary interiors inspired by japandi, wabi-sabi or minimalist design.
