A figure of quiet power and grace, "Dignity" is among Oregon sculptor Rodd Ambroson's most beloved works: a standing woman, wind catching her dress, bearing a washing basin with unhurried purpose. The pose is neither heroic nor passive. It occupies the rarer territory of simple human nobility rendered in enduring bronze.
This is edition 24 of a limited run of 30, cast in bronze in 2006 and finished with Ambroson's characteristic warm patina. The naturalistic rocky base grounds the figure while allowing the upward flow of the composition to carry the eye. At 24 inches tall, it commands presence on a console, pedestal, or library shelf without overwhelming the space around it.
This piece was originally sold in September 2007 through Mockingbird Gallery, LLC in Bend, Oregon, one of the Pacific Northwest's premier fine art galleries representing Ambroson throughout his career. The original Certificate of Authenticity from Mockingbird Gallery accompanies the work, documenting the edition number, dimensions, medium, and gallery valuation of $3,450 at time of sale. The certificate transfers with the piece.
Rodd Ambroson creates figurative sculpture informed by his dual background in fine arts and biomedical science. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Oregon State University and a Master of Arts in biomedical communications from the Texas Health Science Center, where his career in medical illustration earned him two top awards from the Association of Medical Illustrators. That foundation in anatomy is visible in every casting: exquisite accuracy insinuated into gesture, so that the viewer senses true mood and emotion rather than mere representation. His work is held in private collections across the United States and has been exhibited at the Bennington Center for the Arts in Vermont.
