A commanding and heavy-scale Brutalist sculpture of a Kachina figure, meticulously handcrafted from a collage of welded mixed metals, including bronze, copper, and brass. This studio-art piece is a stunning mid-century interpretation of Native American iconography, using industrial techniques to create a powerful, textured spiritual figure. It is signed Joe Lester, a well known Navajo metal sculpter.
The sculpture features a dramatic "sunburst" or feathered headdress with torch-cut edges and a rich, multi-tonal heat patina. Standing at 15 inches tall and weighing a substantial 25 lbs, it serves as a significant anchor piece for an Organic Modern, Industrial, or Southwestern-themed interior.
Subject: Kachina / Southwestern Spirit
Style: Brutalist, Mid-Century Modern, Native American Inspired
Materials: Bronze, Copper, Brass
Details: Signed on the base (indistinct); extremely heavy construction.
Dimensions: 15” H x 13” W x 12” D
Excellent Vintage Condition
Surface: The sculpture retains its original, multi-tonal heat-treated patina. There are beautiful variations in the metal—ranging from deep coppers to golden brass tones—which are characteristic of the artist's welding process and not a result of environmental damage.
Structure: The piece is structurally sound and incredibly heavy at 25 lbs. All welded joints (including the intricate "feather" layers of the headdress) are secure.
Wear: Consistent with age and the Brutalist style, the metal features intentional raw, torch-cut edges and textural slag. There is no significant corrosion, though light oxidation consistent with a mid-century metalwork piece may be present in the recessed areas, adding to its authentic character.
Base: The base is level and stable, though due to the weight and raw metal underside, the use of a felt pad or coaster is recommended to protect delicate furniture surfaces.
