An imposing and rare Brutalist-style monumental sculpture from the Mambila people of the Nigeria/Cameroon border. This hand-carved hardwood shrine is a masterwork of high-relief texture and complex tribal iconography.
The central vessel features a striking four-headed zoomorphic figure with aggressive, bared teeth and deep-set eyes. It is surrounded by a troupe of attendant figures in ritual poses. The raw, primitive carving style and dark, aged patina make it a perfect statement piece for a Brutalist, Organic Modern, or Global Eclectic interior.
This is a substantial, museum-quality piece with incredible 360-degree visual interest, including a large relief mask carved into the back of the central base.
