Introducing a striking and alluring rustic driftwood sculpture by Emlen Drayton. Dubbed "Howling Wolf" by the artist, this two-piece sculpture is made from a base carved from the banister of a 200 year-old Newport home as well as single piece of driftwood replete with extraordinary woodgrains that altogether form the silhouette of a moon-gazed howling wolf. From every angle, this free-standing sculpture is eye-catching and thought provoking and simultaneously organic yet industrial forming a juxtaposition or duality that Drayton is famous for capturing.
Emlen Drayton is an accomplished artist and sculpturer based in Newport, Rhode Island and is best known for his metal work which can be found in various museums and venues around the state and region. He is also known for his use of recycled materials (such as glass, metal, and wood) found or salvaged from historic homes and buildings throughout his beloved coastal New England. He is locally famous for saving even the nails from historic places and placing them in his art, ensuring that everything old can be made anew again.
