This exceptional candle holder combines functionality with artistic expression and exemplifies the design principles of early modernism. Designed in 1930 by Benno Meyer, the object impresses with its organically curved, almost flowing lines.
Crafted from solid bronze with a beautiful patina and finished using a characteristic hammered technique, the surface possesses a vibrant, subtly textured patina that reflects light, lending the piece depth and individuality. The dynamic S-shape appears frozen in motion, giving the candle holder a sculptural presence – a work of art in its own right, even without a candle.
Benno Meyer was an early modernist designer whose work was strongly influenced by the spirit of the Bauhaus era. His designs are characterized by the fusion of clear function and artistic form. He placed particular emphasis on material honesty and craftsmanship.
Meyer's work often straddles the line between design and sculpture – just like this candle holder, which is not only a functional object but also an aesthetic statement. This piece has an attribution mark,
