This Scottish brooch, named Pebble Jewelry, is inlaid with local gemstones such as agate (often from the Montrose area). The stones were set in geometric or floral patterns in silver or gold. Antique examples from the Victorian period (circa 1837–1901) are highly sought after by collectors. You can recognize them by the typical C-clasp (a simple hook without a safety catch) which was the standard until about 1890. Many pieces from this era are not hallmarked (no hallmarks), which was common for Scottish craftsmanship in that period. This brooch has been Dutch re-hallmarked with ZII (835/000) purity of silver. The brooch pin is made of metal. The brooch likely had a cross in the center, but it was removed at some point. The measurement is 4,3 diagonal and 1,5 cm high The weight is 12 grams See less
