A 1932 first edition of Opium: The Diary of an Addict by Jean Cocteau (French, 1889–1963), translated by Ernest Boyd and published by Longmans, Green and Co., New York.
This early English-language edition is illustrated with 27 plates after drawings by Cocteau and retains its original green cloth boards with gilt lettering, along with the original clipped dust jacket. A strong example of an important 20th-century literary and artistic work by one of France’s most influential modernists.
An appealing piece for collectors of literary first editions, Surrealist and avant-garde material, French modernism, and artist-illustrated books.
