A true icon of mid-century italian lighting design, this rare large version of model 596 was designed by the legendary gino sarfatti and produced by arteluce in 1968. Striking in scale and form, this sculptural table lamp embodies the elegant modernist aesthetic that made sarfatti a master of light. The lamp features a bold, mushroom-shaped silhouette with a white opaline methacrylate diffuser cup, creating a soft, ambient glow when illuminated. Its base, crafted from aluminum and finished in contrasting black and white, has been professionally refinished at some point, preserving the original design intent with great care and precision. Functionally sophisticated, the lamp accommodates one e27 bulb up to 150w in the top and four e14 bulbs up to 40w each inside the base, allowing for a rich, diffused spherical light that adds atmosphere and architectural presence to any space. Rarely seen in this large format and complete condition, this piece retains its original diffuser cap, often missing in vintage examples, making it a particularly valuable find for discerning collectors. Highly sought after and increasingly scarce on the market, this lamp is not only a functional lighting object but also a collectible design artifact. Gino sarfatti (1912–1985) was a pioneering figure in 20th-century lighting, having designed over 600 lighting fixtures and founding the influential arteluce in 1939. He was instrumental in shaping postwar italian design through his innovative use of materials, technology, and minimalist forms, earning numerous international design awards throughout his career. Literature; gino sarfatti 1938-1973 selected works silvana editoriale, romanelli & severi. Page 438. This lamp is checked in our own atelier, cleaned and is also suitable for use in the usa as is. For us usage we could change the plug. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
