A classic polyside chair from robin day's renowned polypropylene series for the british manufacturer hille. This model is among the most iconic industrially manufactured seating of the 20th century and was first introduced in 1963. The design is considered one of the first successfully mass-produced chairs made of injection-molded polypropylene and represented a technical innovation at the time. The lightweight, durable material allowed for the creation of a long-lasting yet cost-effective chair, which has been produced millions of times worldwide and remains a design classic to this day.
the one-piece seat shell, made of black polypropylene, is ergonomically shaped and features robin day's signature softly rolled edge, which provides both stability and a clean, minimalist aesthetic. The shell is supported by a slender, gray-finished tubular steel frame with a characteristic a-frame design. This construction allows for space-saving stacking of the chairs, making them particularly suitable for flexible use in residential, office, or commercial settings.
this chair combines functional minimalism with industrial clarity and is a typical example of the progressive material and production ideas of the 1960s. Due to its robustness, the model was used worldwide in schools, universities, canteens, restaurants, and public buildings, as well as in private homes.
condition: good used condition with age-related wear. The plastic shells show some light scratches and minor abrasions, and the frames have some light patina. Overall, it is stable, functional, and very usable.
