This circular wall sculpture is an authentic studio work by Paperlight, handcrafted in 2004. A striking example of Brutalist design fused with Modern Primitive motifs, this piece is numbered 15-53 and bears the official Paperlight studio mark on the reverse.
The sculpture is crafted from archival-grade cotton linter fiber, a material prized for its durable, stone-like texture and its ability to maintain structural integrity without the yellowing or degradation common in lesser paper pulps. The design features a bold split-hemisphere aesthetic: one side in deep charcoal "slate" and the other in a soft stone-grey.
The central vertical band serves as an architectural anchor, detailed with intricate tribal-inspired scrollwork and inset with rich green and gold-toned embellishments that simulate the appearance of polished stone. With a convex profile that projects 3 inches from the wall, the piece creates a dramatic sense of depth and shadow.
The sculpture measures 21.5 inches in diameter and sits approximately 3 inches out from the wall. It remains in excellent vintage condition; the hand-applied pigments are vibrant, all inlays are secure, and the fiber surface is entirely free of chips or cracks. The original integrated heavy-duty hanging wire is intact and ready for display.
